Rishikesh is a chakra of the earth, in the center between Himalayan Mountains and the sacred Ganga river. Touching this land to learn yoga isn't just digesting information but diving deep into a well of ancient knowledge that is transforming people's lives all over the world today. You are invited to join this endless web of sharing the gift of yoga. You will learn Yoga in its complete form- a science to grow the entire being. In the 200 hour course you will learn Hatha yoga, the original physical yoga practice, Pranayama, breathing exercises to control the Prana (life force) in the body, meditation, yoga nidra (yogic sleep), mantra chanting, Kriyas (cleansing), and Karma yoga. In the 300 hour you will also learn Ashtanga asanas.

Yoga around the world has been largely diluted and changed to fit an industrial mold, and a lot is lost in the process. Coming to Rishikesh you will be returning to the source of yoga, and from the roots you will grow a strong and beautiful practice because your foundation will be unshakable.

The Pyramid Yogshala is one of the most beautiful locations in Rishikesh, above the city with the view of the valley and the gentle song of the Ganga in the distance. Each teacher is an expert in their field, carefully selected because of their excellence and the love they put into their work. At the end of the course you will be fully equipped to teach yoga. Our teachers are fully invested in your learning process and will work with you until you are confident in your knowledge and practice. Weather you are joining  the teacher training to become a professional yoga teacher or to deepen your own practice, you will be joining a strong yoga community that will nurture your growth and catapult you forward on your journey in ways you can't yet imagine. There is so much magic that awaits you in Rishikesh, so much inside you waiting to be discovered.

Pranayama & Practice

Pranayama is gaining control of the prana, or life force in the body. This is accomplished through practice of a system of breathing exercises. With pranayama practice one can manipulate the breath to create balance in the body, calm the body and mind or energize it, improve functions of the organs, and gain control of the mind. This often overlooked practice is actually one of the most powerful ways to harmonize ones entire being and has been called the “supreme asana.”

The practice entails alternative nostril breathing, manipulation of the exhalation, inhalation, and retention of breath. With pranayama you will be able to greatly improve your sleep, your energy during the day, release stress and prevent health issues. It will strengthen your asana (physical yoga) practice as well as your meditation practice. It can also be used to improve the health of people who cannot perform asanas. Pranayama will help you to attain balance in your mind your entire being and in your life.

Why chant mantras?

In my experience chanting mantras has a magical affect on my being. It is balancing, healing, and centering for my spirit, mind and body. The vibrations resonate in my core, and they are the vibrations of the universe, so I am aligned with the universe. There are an uncountable number of mantras, but the most universally powerful mantra is AUM (OM). A represents the conscious world, U represents the subconscious, M represents the unconscious , and the space at the end represents the infinite consciousness. Another way it has been interpreted is that A is the self, U is unity, and M is God, so AUM is uniting the self with God. AUM has as many definitions as there are people who chant it, but every one can feel the power and peace that it brings them. It is said that any sound in existence can be created from the sounds "aaa" "ouu" and "mmm" And being the whole universe is made of vibrating energy, and all vibration creates sound, everything- the whole universe is sound. Therefor AUM is the string in the web of the universe.

You don't need any special skills to chant mantras or to experience the gentle transformative power that they have over your life. If you are wondering how you can chant mantras without understanding Sanskrit, that is a good question. The answer is that you don't have to understand the mantras for them to affect you. Sanskrit mantras are specifically designed sounds that affect the subtle body, Prana body, the mind and the spirit. The vibrations themselves are already within the body and they have the syncopating power to induce serendipity. As an ancient language, the mantras have been on so many thousands of tongues that by chanting them you are connecting yourself to the expansive web of people transcending themselves through sound. Sound is a much less divisive form of energy than matter. So maybe you won't feel that you are transcending time and space every time you chant, but the mantras offer you the potential to experience the truth that everything is everything and you are everything.

So let's chant some mantras!
